Peru exported 313% more blueberries to the US

Peruvian blueberry exports to the United States in the first four months of this year increased by 313% when compared to the same period of 2017, stated the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Blueberry shipments to the US in the first quarter amounted to 32 million dollars, i.e. 313% more than the eight million achieved in the first quarter of last year.

With this result, the United States, which is also the world's largest importer of this product, continues to consolidate itself as the main destination of Peruvian blueberries (65% share).

In the first four months of 2018, Peruvian blueberry shipments totaled 49 million dollars, i.e. 232% more than in the same period of 2017.

According to Mincetur, the good performance of Peruvian exports was due to the considerable increase in volume, which went from 2,665 to 8,448 tons (217%), and a slight increase in the FOB price (5%).

The main markets for the Peruvian blueberry in the first four months of 2018, were the United States, which was followed by the Netherlands (20%), the United Kingdom (7%), and Canada (5%).

Between January and April of this year, the main blueberry exporting region was La Libertad, which accounted for 92% of fruit shipments.
