Mennonite Beef Production in Chihuahua: A 30-Year Success Story

Thirty years ago, our consultants began to establish contact with the Mennonite community in Chihuahua, Mexico. Our first project was to establish a value chain to supply beef.

This was the beginning of more than 50 different projects of different sizes, and in all this time, our consultants have teamed up with more than 10,000 small producers in corn, cotton, milk production, and cheese production.

Today, in partnership with the Mennonite community, we have transformed what was originally a waste calf at 90 days old into a dairy cattle for meat production system, making it more profitable and sustainable. We have introduced techniques that have allowed us to increase traceability and safety of the meat produced. As a result, we have managed to produce more than 5 million pounds of meat annually, with increases of more than 30% in the last five years.

Our integrated production system includes more than 2,000 small-scale family farmers and private investors in the state of Chihuahua. Results like this give us the confidence to continue investing in new alternatives and improve existing ones.
