FGH & Solidaridad Network join forces to make sugarcane crop sustainable in Latin America
Using cutting-edge smart technologies, Latin American sugarcane farmers can be sure of working for a sustainable farming. Solidaridad Network, a global Dutch based NGO, in collaboration with FGH International Agribusiness a global consulting firm, build a project to improve the sustainability of sugarcane value chain at Ciudad Valles, Mexico
This project is expected to reduce the environmental impact of the crop in Mexico and provide a scalable solution for farmers across the continent. By bringing first-of-its-kind, cost-effective real/time technology in the hands of farmers provided by Sourcetrace, an American software provider, the amount of inputs needed for row crop is greatly reduced, as is the environmental impact of the sugarcane supply chain. This project enables farmers to make informed decisions, by using Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
FGH aims to increase the competitive position of small-scale farmers so they can grow crops sustainably, increase yields and profits and strengthen the food supply chain.
According to Maria Gomez, FGH Social Investment Coordinator explains: "This decision will broaden our experience in social development and investment in our company, as well, we transform companies and their people while preserving valuable traditions".
Sugarcane is one of the fastest-growing commodities in the world, and Solidaridad has partnered with the region´s leading sugarcane producers to launch PanAmericaña, a multi-stakeholder platform in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The program aims to improve production, labour conditions and standards across the industry.
